Ok, I might be a bit radical here, but I will go on to argue that Twitter is a quantity game rather than a quality game. That’s not to say you don’t want targeted Twitter followers. Otherwise I would not have written this post.
In any case, I can’t imagine any negative effects if you have a lot of followers on Twitter. It doesn’t cost you anything to have more followers like a bigger email list. Just make sure to follow the people you want to connect with so they can DM you. Otherwise, you’re missing out on a major benefit of Twitter.
that said, you still want to try to get targeted followerfabrik, so I’m not going to talk about followback lists or auto-add tools or anything like that. I’m talking about getting genuine followers who want to listen to you. Many of them will happen, of course, but some you have to look for.
In this list, keep in mind that according to Hubspot’s Dan Zarrella and author of the Social Media Marketing Book, you want to try to keep your follower count higher than your follower count. The data shows that people are less likely to follow you when you have a follower-to-follower ratio greater than 1:1.
Usually people don’t follow you back after 3 days. To find the people who aren’t following you, check out Twitter Karma. It’s a free tool that (for now) legally works with the Twitter API.
Besides that. Here is the list of how to get more targeted Twitter followers.
1.) Find the most influential people in your market and look at their followers. Follow their followers. These are likely people who would like to follow you (tip: if you @mention their name before following them, you make them more likely to follow you back). Be careful not to follow too many people at once or you will break the 1:1 rule and appear as spam . Try to make this a natural process. Keep it at 20 a day or so.
This is a great job that a VA can do for you.
2.) Use hashtags when posting updates. This makes it easier for people searching for that term to find you. Don’t spam hashtags . Try to limit it to a maximum of two per update, and make sure to throw in hashtagless (yes I made that a word) updates from time to time.
3.) Use search.twitter.com or the Twitter search box to find people tweeting about your specific search terms. For example, if you love to tweet about health, you can search for topics like diet, exercise, fitness, biggest loser, and so on. Follow these people and hope for an answer. Most Twitter management tools like TweetDeck have a built-in search function that does the same thing.
4.) Attend events that use Twitter hashtags – Many webinars and even live events like #IMS (Inbound Marketing Summit) in the social media and internet marketing space use hashtags that users use to share their experiences Twitter can comment. This way you can attract the attention of many new followers and learn a lot.
5.) Get a custom bumper sticker or t-shirt with @yourtwittername on it (warning: only do this if you’re okay with being recognized as a total geek)
6.) Use a Twitter scheduling tool to tweet throughout the day. The more you use Twitter (and provide quality tweets), the more followers you’ll have, plain and simple. Different people are on Twitter at different times, mostly by accident. Most people can’t and don’t want to be on Twitter all day. It can be one hell of a distraction.
Scheduling tweets in advance allows you to at least be somewhat active throughout the day, rather than in 10-minute bursts of tweets. There are a lot of tools you can use to schedule tweets. I prefer TweetDeck for its simplicity. Just get up a few minutes early, schedule about 10 tweets, and be on your way.
7.) Be visible! Place your @username on your business cards, email signature, LinkedIn profile, Facebook page, blog, coffee mug, lunch box, mouse pad, forehead tattoo , etc. Obviously I’m exaggerating a bit here, but You understand. Just make your @username visible in many places.
8.) Speak at an event or host a webinar – Every time you are visible in public, you should put your Twitter name out there. If not active, just post it somewhere people can see (e.g. as a watermark on your slides). Following someone on Twitter is the easiest thing in the world. Don’t just put up a “Follow me on Twitter” sign. This is a mistake many people make. Actually write your @username. Make it easy for others to find you!
9.) Be Verified – So this only works for people who are highly recognizable or at risk of being impersonated, but if you belong to that special interest group this is a way to protect yourself from being impersonated and secondly, get a lot of new followers. People tend towards verified accounts. So if you’re a big name and you’re not verified, go here to verify your Twitter account.
10.) Getting Retweeted and Mentioned – This is a bit trickier because it’s all about being a good tweeter, but basically if you post good useful content and @mention others kindly, you’ll start getting mentions and tweets yourself . Once you’ve established some Twitter relationships, you can send messages to your followers asking them to @mention you to get their followers to follow you.

11.) Create a cool background – If you know a designer or are good at design yourself, make sure your Twitter background looks sleek, cool, and professional (note the clever use of subjective terminology). There are many custom background services online that will do this for you for a few bucks. Just google “custom twitter background” to find more.
At least use a sleek default background so you don’t look like you just mixed something up. The default background is better than a poorly made custom background.
12.) Make you valuable to follow – Make it so people MUST follow you on Twitter to get a deal on your service. Twitter only coupon codes and discounts. Twitter blog updates only. Twitter only secret low-down information. Provide a unique value. This works well for retailers. But anyone can use it.
For example, you can tweet a keyword- rich hashtag tweet and say all new followers will get something for free before the end of the day.
13.) Go to a tweetup – man, I may have jumped out of geek low here, but this is actually a great way to not only get more Twitter followers, but to meet a lot of cool people as well. For those who don’t know , tweetups are actual face-to-face (gasp) meetings of twitter follower kaufen users. You could go bowling, do karaoke, or whatever. Some people even wear @username nametags. Chances are, you’re not connected to everyone there. You’re bound to gain some new followers from the deal.
Take a notepad and make a list of people you want to follow.
14.) Host a random contest – People like free stuff, especially when they don’t have to do anything to get it. A good example is offering a cool and cheap price to a random new follower over a period of a week that will appeal to your target audience. Tweet about it a few times a day using different keywords and hashtags , post it on your blog, email signature, LinkedIn status, Facebook status, etc. (Price) Well, you’ll get a few new followers too to win.
This works best if you can enlist a few people to retweet your contest for you. Think strategically when doing this and don’t spend TOO much on your bribe.
15.) Post a real picture of yourself – Unless you want to fool your followers, it helps to have a picture of yourself that represents who you are. Take a few minutes to dress up and snap a photo specifically for your Twitter profile. Don’t cut a friend out of a picture. Don’t use your company logo and don’t use the standard icon. Post a real picture of you!
16.) Complete your profile – Probably the best way to get someone to unfollow you is with an incomplete profile. If you don’t list anything on your profile, people won’t know what you’re doing. You only have to fill out 160 characters. Fill out this sucker and make sure it speaks to your target audience. This will have a big impact on your follower count.
17.) Guest blog for your followers – This can actually be very powerful. When you create content for people you follow, you not only develop a relationship with them on Twitter, but you can also get a backlink to your website and benefit from retweeting your article. Just make sure to add your Twitter name to the post with a link to follow if you want to do it for free.
