What is so special about croissants ? Why are they such a popular pastry ? There are many reasons, but one of the most important is that they are delicious! They can be filled with cheese, ham, or other fillings, or simply served with butter. Croissants can also be made into chocolate croissants by adding chocolate chips to the dough. In this blog post, we will give you a classic croissant recipe so that you can make them at home!
Croissants are a type of pastry that originates from France. They are made from a dough that is rolled and folded multiple times, similar to puff pastry. This creates many layers of dough, which makes the croissant flaky and buttery. Croissants can be served plain or filled with cheese, ham, chocolate, or other fillings. They are often served for breakfast or as a snack.
The dough for croissants is made from flour, water, yeast, sugar, salt, and butter. The butter is what makes the dough so rich and flaky. To make the dough, the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt are first mixed. Then, the butter is added and the dough is kneaded until it is smooth. The dough is then rolled out and folded multiple times, similar to puff pastry. After that, it is refrigerated overnight so that the butter can harden.
The next day, the dough is rolled out and cut into triangles. Then, it is rolled up from the base to form a crescent shape. The classic croissants are then placed on a baking sheet and baked until they are golden brown.
You can also try croissants with cream as they are one of the most favorite croissants worldwide. There are many recipes for croissants with cream and we suggest choosing a croissant with mascarpone cream.
Make the mascarpone Cream
Mix the mascarpone and salt on medium-high speed in the paddle-equipped bowl of a stand mixer or in a sizable bowl if using a handheld mixer.
Slowly pour the cream in while lowering the mixer’s speed. Vanilla and powdered sugar are then added. For another two to three minutes, increase the mixer’s speed to medium. Keep chilled until you’re ready to use.
Cheese Croissant Recipe
A 180°C oven is ideal. Cut the dough into eight triangles. Each triangle should include one piece of ham and two strips of cheese down the middle. Ham’s edges are folded in to fit the triangle-shaped dough. Roll each crescent, finishing at the triangle’s tip. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet with the tips down. Until golden brown, 15 to 19 minutes of baking. Remove from cookie sheet right away. Enjoy your cheese croissants after 5 minutes.
Chocolate Croissant Recipe
Set the oven at 170 C. Instead of cutting the dough into 8 triangles like a conventional store-bought croissant, unroll it and knead it into one big piece before cutting it into 4 identical-sized rectangles. This is the trick to making two-ingredient croissants look authentic rather than like pre-cut, regularly sold croissants from the shop.
Place about 12 chocolate chips in the bottom third of each rectangle (give or take depending on how chocolatey you want them to be).
Place the croissants on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until golden brown (or according to the croissant packaging if yours varies). Then you can enjoy your favorite chocolate croissants.
The croissant recipe yield delicious, flaky, and buttery croissants that will be sure to please your family and friends! So what are you waiting for? Give it a try today!
